A personal account of my experience with Chiari Malformation. A patient's view! I want to share information in the hopes of helping other Chiari patients. Learning everything you can about your condition is the best way to help yourself.  You are your own best patient advocate.

Pronounced: Key-ar-ee

This site discusses Chiari Type 1 Malformation, a congenital malformation of the skull, where the back of the skull (posterior fossa) is too small, causing a downward displacement of the brain (cerebellum) into the cervical spinal canal.  This downward displacement blocks the normal flow of cerebrospinal fluid. (CSF)

There is no cure.  However, symptoms can be managed with surgery.

WELCOME! One of the greatest things to come from my Chiari is the wonderful people I've met.  Other "Chiarians" are out there, plenty of them.  If you have this condition, you are NOT alone!
